1.004 FOOT FREIGHTER RUNS AGROUND IN DULUTH HARBOR

A huge 1,004 foot freighter, loaded with iron ore pellets, ran aground in the Duluth harbor Sunday afternoon. The grounding of the American Spirit, caused the Aerial Lift Bridge to be pressed into service as the only way to ship traffic for the time being. The freighter came to a stop just short of the seawall, but it didn’t hit it. Nobody was hurt. Boaters are being asked to stay at least 500 yards away from the ship. The Coast Guard reported Sunday evening there were no signs of pollution.



HEALTH INSURANCE RATES ACTUALLY DIPPING A BIT IN MINNESOTA

After the past few years, when severe price spikes have been the norm, health insurers in Minnesota’s individual markets are proposing mostly decreased premium rates for 2019. The average decrease could range anywhere from 3 percent to more than 12 percent, althoght the proposed rates are preliminary and will be reviewed by the Commerce Department before they are finalized later this year. Even so, health insurance rates remain sky high compared to just a few years ago, prior to the implementation of The Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.
