Franken, Grassley Offer Bipartisan Farm Protection

The US Senate unanimously approved bipartisan legislation introduced by Minnesota Sen. Al Franken and Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley that will help family farmers when they fall on hard times. The Family Farmer Bankruptcy Clarification Act of 2017 fixes a 2005 ruling and ensures that the law will protect family farmers. It allows them to reorganize their debts to treat capital gains taxes as general unsecured claims.



Beltrami Sheriffs Respond to Burglary, Poaching Monday

Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputy Michael Frees responded to a Burglary, reported Monday at 1:02pm by complainant Corey James Wright of 7129 Irvine Avenue NW in Bemidji.
Deputies also responded early Monday to a report of possible poaching activity in Puposky Township. Rosemary Gustafson on 601 Higgins Road NE was the complainant. Deputy Nicholas Bender reports that the probable suspects were located by Red Lake Tribal Conservation officers.
