In a work session Monday evening, the Bemidji City Council approved a plan to redevelop and improve Library and Paul Bunyan Parks on the downtown waterfront. The proposal is a scaled-down version of a plan that has been in the works since 2001 and will use money from the city's half-cent sales tax and the state's Legacy grants to make improvements, including closing off the 3rd Street access to the park and upgrading the platform for the new Chief Bemidji statue. The plan passed on a unanimous vote with Councilmember Reed Olson absent.

The council declined last night to move forward on a bonding bill referendum to secure funding for the new park and swimming beach in Nymore.
