Last night the Bemidji City Council approved funding for the construction of a platform that will support a new statue of Chief Bemidji on the downtown waterfront. The cost of the project is just over $40,000 and is part of a larger revitalization of Paul Bunyan and Library Parks. The new sculpture will be installed next spring and will be overlooking the lake along a new section of trail running through the two parks.

The council also authorized a new four-way stop at the intersection of Hannah Ave. and 30th St. After hearing many complaints from residents, city workers logged incidents at the intersection during a 12-hour period and determined more trafic control was necessary.
