The City of Bemidji is seeking public input from residents of Bemidji on the development of a park area located on the South Shore.  A questionnaire is being mailed out this week to property tax payers in the city limits.

The questionnaire is designed to get opinions on what amenities are important and the costs associated with the park development.  One important question is whether the city should prepare a swimming beach, which would involve cleaning the lake bottom of industrial wood debris that was dumped there for decades. That cleanup would cost millions and would likely result in higher property taxes.

The City is working with Bemidji State University – Marketing Assistance and Research Solutions (MARS) to design, mail and compile the study.   The results will be available to the public after they are presented to the City Council early in 2014.
