A land deal signed last summer for the development of apartments on the south shore of Lake Bemidji is being withdrawn because of soil problems at the site. The Bemidji City Council, acting as the Bemidji Economic Development Authority, will vote Tuesday evening on a deal worked out between the developer and city staff that would cancel the purchase agreement signed in August with South Shore Landing, LLC.

The estimated cost of cleaning up the soil at the site, which has been polluted by wood chip waste for decades, is over half a million dollars.
