A wildfire caused the evacuation of several homes in Pike Bay Township about one mile south of Cass Lake Wednesday aftertnoon, according to Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch.
Water-scooping airplanes and helicopters were called in to support ground crews battling the fire with heavy equipment. The blaze was fueled by trees that were downed in the July 2 wind storm two years ago. About 60 people were on the ground working to contain the wildfire which was brought under control last evening after burning about 76 acres of forest and several unoccupied outbuildings.
A juvenile male was taken into custody near the fire, and the Sheriff said that arson was the suspected cause.
