A 17-year-old Cass Lake resident has been charged with arson after the fire he allegedly started burned more than 70 acres and endangered several homes in Pike Bay Township last week.

Cass County Attorney Christopher Strandlie announced that Anthony James Wittner has been charged with felony Wildfire Arson for intentionally setting the fire that burned out of control for several hours last Wednesday. The fire was eventually brought under control with the use of water-dropping planes and helicopters and more than 70 firefighters on the ground. Strandlie has requested that the court try Wittner as an adult.
